Seine Kindheit verlebte Stel in Rochester und Chatham, wo er die Chatham Grammar School for Boys besuchte. [2] Danach studierte Pavlou an der University of Liverpool, wo er graduierte. Außerdem studierte er auch als Austauschstudent an der University of Mississippi. [3] Schließlich übersiedelte er in die USA, wo er heute mit seiner Familie in Colorado lebt. [4]

Zu den bekanntesten Werken von Pavlou, der sich als Buchautor auf den Bereich der Speculative Fiction konzentriert, gehört der 2001 erchienene Bestseller "Decipher" [5] (ein in der Gegenwart angesiedelter Atlantis-Roman, dessen Handlung in der Wiederentdeckung des verschollenen Reiches der Vorzeit gipfelt), sowie der historische Kriminal-Thriller "Gene", welcher im Jahr 2005 veröffentlicht wurde.
